Why is there paint/flags on my property?

If you have hired a contractor to do any work on your property (i.e., install a pool, fence, driveway, etc.), this contractor has a legal obligation to contact UDig NY to get underground utilities marked out by utility companies/operators.

Due to this, you may see utility personnel and their contractors at your property.  They may need to access areas of your property find meters, manholes, handholes and valves.  The locators will be leaving paint and flags on your property to indicate where your utilities are underground.

If you have not hired a contractor, or have not placed a location request yourself with UDig NY for a pending home project, there may be a municipal job happening around your property on the right-of-way.
