Maintaining Certification
When a person has successfully completed UDig NY’s Certified Excavator Program (CEP) in Safe Digging Best Practices Master Class they are certified by UDig NY for five (5) years, having demonstrated a fundamental understanding of the Safe Digging Best Practices that should be used for safe excavation in accordance with the Common Ground Alliance Best Practices and New York State Code Rule 753.
Certifications are good for five (5) years, if the individual successfully attends, in-person or online, one (1) free renewal class each year between the year certified and the expiration year. Free renewal classes include any requested individual/company training, any free Spring Into Safety event, a renewal class at the Damage Prevention Conference & Expo, or the online Certified Excavator Program Renewal Course. If a renewal event is missed during this time, it will result in the need to become recertified.
Renewal vs. Recertification
A CEP renewal is a one (1) hour training that a Certified Excavator takes once a year to refresh their knowledge and maintain an existing CEP certification. Recertification is the process of retaking the four (4) hour CEP Master Class, which is required on the fifth year after initially earning certification.
How to check when you are due to recertify by retaking the CEP Master Class:
- Option 1: View Your Digital Certificate: Upon passing the Certified Excavator Program, you will instantly have access to a digital copy of your certification. This will be located within your student account in Coursettra. To view your Certificate, log in to Coursettra and look for the Completed Tab on your account homepage. The date that you are due to recertify is listed on the certificate.
- Option 2: Scan Your Certified Excavator Card: Upon passing the Certified Excavator Program, you will be mailed a certification card to the address provided in your Coursettra account. This card will include a unique QR code that may be scanned, allowing for certification to be verified. The final date listed for Continuing Education Due will be the due date for you to recertify by taking the Master Class. Please note that if you failed to take an annual renewal class when required, you will not be found in this lookup.
