Private Services do not furnish a public resource. For example, the water main that provides water to everyone on a given street is public, but water delivered directly to you as an individual is private. Since these facilities are privately owned, it is not the responsibility of the Utility Owners to locate these services.
The best practice for identifying private services is to contact 811, and then hire a private locating company to identify and mark these services for you. These companies have resources to determine the location of private services. For more information on private utilities, visit this web page.
